Although the police have yet to officially determine the cause of the fire at the ice rink in the woods near Odoorn, they are almost certain at the ice club. “We think there is arson,” sighs treasurer Henk Wolbers.

In the night from Friday to Saturday, the canteen of the association went up in flames. Nothing remains of the building, including the inventory. “It all burned down,” says Wolbers. The canteen consisted of a few units that were placed against each other and were finished with wood.

A few meters behind the cafeteria was another kind of storage container, with sweepers and other items to clean the ice rink. “Fortunately, that part has survived, but that has also suffered damage from the outside. That has all become very hot, so the paint has come off.”

A month ago, a fire was also set in the building of the ice cream club in Exloo, a little further on. That building was also destroyed. Wolbers dare not say whether the fire in Odoorn is the work of the same perpetrators. “The only similarity is that it was on the night from Friday to Saturday,” he says.
