To promote her new song, Samantha Steenwijk posted a text on Instagram last week with which she pretended that her relationship had come to an end: “I’ve been through this before. Tired of guessing. I’m not even mad anymore. I now choose myself. And I come out of this stronger. There is nothing more you can say.”

Bizarre PR stunt

Samantha’s wife Daisy cheated hard in the past and this text made it seem like it happened again. Attempts by the media to adversarily were thwarted by Samantha. Both she, her wife and her management have refused calls from the press all day, according to Shownieuws.

Not much later, Yvonne Coldeweijer discovered that it was a publicity stunt. “Only criticize the juice and even file a lawsuit, but want to use the juice about your relationship to promote your single,” said the juice queen in astonishment. According to Evert Santegoeds, the singer can now never complain about the tabloid press.

Samantha responds

Loretta Schrijver summoned Samantha this morning in Coffee time. “You put some lyrics from that single on Instagram, but didn’t add that it’s the lyrics to your new single. And then it went completely wild, didn’t it, on the internet?”, says the presenter.

Samantha: “Yes, I didn’t quite expect it to go like this. I really thought people would think I wouldn’t say it like this if there were problems at home.”

Loretta surprised: “But isn’t this the way people communicate via Instagram and social media these days? Because just to be clear: everyone now thought that you had broken up.”

‘Not true!’

According to Samantha, there is no question of a relationship breakdown. “No, that is not true. Not at all, not at all, it’s going very well. No, no, but of course you are free to promote on your own social media channels. That’s what they’re for. If someone has a new film or a new television program, they will of course also put that on it.”

Everyone does it in his or her own way, according to the singer. “We thought: let’s set up a piece of the new text and see what comes of it. Of course, a lot came of that.”

Media blame

Samantha thinks her publicity stunt has been blown up by the media. “That is the time we live in, when people very quickly have a negative view of something, so of course they also view it in the most negative way and conclusions are drawn too quickly.”

Co-host Pernilla La Lau cautiously: “Yeah, well, I get it.”

Loretta: “To finish the story: people feel offended, fans feel offended, because they think: ah, you told us something, it looks like you broke up. Of course you are also the one who is cracking down on the juice channels, but you do feed them.”

‘Nothing to do with!’

Samantha sees it differently. “No, because this is promoting a single and that’s not about… I have nothing to do with it, with media or juice channels or how it all works. In the end, they jumped to conclusions and therefore had to go through the dust, like: ‘We didn’t have it right.’”

It’s just all the media’s fault and not her, Samantha concludes. “There have also been media that have not done it. Then I think: they may have thought a little more.”

Loretta: “If it was a publicity stunt, at least it worked.”
