Juve, what is the Europa League worth between UEFA prizes and the box office

The figures are not those of the Champions League, but the second European Cup offers many benefits to the Juventus coffers

The events of the Juventus season, on the field but also in terms of the investigation and the penalty, have made the Europa League a much more important objective on a sporting level than it was possible to think in November, when the elimination materialized of the bianconeri from the Champions League. That is, it is an important occasion due to the need to give meaning to the season, to end it with at least one trophy and perhaps to qualify for the next Champions League. But, albeit at a totally different level than the Champions League itself, the Europa League continues to have interesting implications from an economic point of view as well.

HOW MUCH ARE THE PLAYOFFS WORTH

Juventus has already collected 500,000 euros just for being there to play these play-offs. The passage of the round with qualification for the round of 16 brings 1.2 million to the coffers of each team. A figure that doubles overall also considering the box office, from which the sold out against Nantes yielded almost 1.7 million in Juventus revenues. Closing the double round with the French with access to the round of 16 would therefore mean for Juventus an income of not so much less than 3.5 million, with a view to the possibility of increasing them further.

GOING FORWARD

Only for bonuses related to results, the Europa League guarantees another 1.8 million in case of access to the quarterfinals, then another 2.8 million in case of qualification for the semifinals and finally a further 4.6 million for the defeated finalist and 8 .6 million for the winner of the cup. Including the current play-off, therefore, reaching the final, even without winning it, would yield a total of 11 million, which added to the approximately 7 that can be estimated from the box office in that scenario, would bring about 18 million to the coffers, which could rise to 22 million by winning the trophy. To this money must also be added the shares linked to the ten-year ranking and the market pool.

AND INSTEAD THE CHAMPIONS

We are clearly at a lower level than the Champions League, which even in a basic scenario like this season – which ended with elimination at the end of the group stage – brings estimated revenues of around 80 million per season. A share not far from a quarter of Juventus’ annual revenues, to which should be added less directly quantifiable consequences linked to a drop in the market value of sponsors. A downgrade that Juve needs it to be limited only to this second part of the season: even if the bar is very high and far from obvious, given certain opponents, the importance of this Europa League is also that of giving the black and whites back the upstairs keys for next season. And then there is the economic sphere. No, it’s not the Champions League. But leaving immediately would be a further blow to the accounts.
