Marianne Vos receives treatment for narrowing of the pelvic artery

Marianne Vos will be treated on Thursday for a narrowing of the pelvic artery. The 35-year-old cyclist from Babyloniënbroek reports via Instagram that ‘after a few good weeks on and off the bike on the Costa Blanca’, ten days of rest follow the treatment. “I’m already looking forward to getting back on the bike in preparation for the first races.”

Vos ended her cross season prematurely because of the complaints caused by the narrowing of her pelvic artery. It prevented her from delivering top performances and she also decided not to defend her world title at the World Championships in Hoogerheide. Teammate Fem van Empel from Den Dungen succeeded her as world champion.

A narrowed pelvic artery causes complaints in the legs. Less blood flows through the veins. As a solution, both surgery and angioplasty can be done. It is unclear which treatment Vos will choose.

The cyclist recently extended her contract with Jumbo-Visma by two years. Vos is now under contract with the Dutch team until the end of 2025.
