IS a “back to the future”, literally. One of those trends that as soon as you see them, immediately catapult us to the teenage years and the legendary eighties. THE frisé hair is back with us.
That zig-zag effect that was so popular during the Eightiesas if the hair at the time needed even more volume, was spotted in Versace’s new press campaign. Already announcing the flavor that spring will have.
Frisé hair, the return of the zigzag
One of the last “vintage” images of hair with frisé is by Christina Aguilera in the video of the famous Lady Marmelade. From there the frisé hair took a long break, which has lasted to this day.
A few days ago, in fact, Gigi Hadid with her sister Bella and Donatella Versace almost simultaneously published images of the new one on their social profiles SS 2022 press campaign of the Medusa brand showing off very fluffy hair with frisé.
Behind the look, hairstylist Paul Hanlon who, straighteners in hand, created the unmistakable waves on the hair, also underlining that sense of “sisterhood” that is fil rouge of the campaign.
But Donatella & Co are not the only ones to show them off: also Kate Hudson had an Eighties moment when on social media he showed his “frisetted” hair, as well as Veronica Lucchesi, the singer of The Representative of Lista, showed them off in the backstage of Sanremo 2022.
The frisé invented for Barbra Streisand
Eighties spirit but with roots in the Seventies. The first to show them off was in fact Barbra Streisand who, thanks to the hairstlist Gari Cusenza, made them for the cover of his album Butterfly. It was the year 1974. From there, the frisé never really abandoned us, popping up on stages, catwalks – even haute couture – and press campaigns.
Suitable for all hair, even those curls, the frisé, however, give the best of them on smooth hair giving it maximum volume. The great advantage of this technique is the “spectacularization”: in fact the effect is practically always wow, especially on medium-long hair, while on the short ones they create a result punk-sauvage.
Straightener or braid for frisé hair
Given that the result is not the same on all the hair, and that unexpectedly last longer on thin ones because they have more grip, the frisé is made with the suitable plate, that is the one with wavy lamellaewider or narrower depending on the result to be obtained.
The only trick is to first spray a thermal protector so as not to attack the hair too much with high temperatures.
Alternatively, plate apart, frisé waving can also be achieved by braiding the hair. After shampooing, with the hair still damp, just do a lot of very small braids which, once dissolved, will give the zig-zag effect.
The advantages of the frisé? It resists humidity and just a brush stroke
There are three main advantages of this hairstyle. First of all, does not fear humidityindeed, the higher the temperatures and the humid climate, the more the frisé gives its best.
Also it is one technique that lasts a very long time, basically until the next shampoo, and it doesn’t get damaged even if you sleep on it. In the end, the frisé is easy to maintain: a brush stroke upside down and a few sprinkles of dry shampoo and the hair is ready!
