The 39-year-old man arrested in Spain last summer on suspicion of drug trafficking has been sentenced to three years in prison. This was determined by the court in Den Bosch on Tuesday afternoon. The police tracked him down after the discovery of a drug lab in Luyksgestel in 2020. His houses in Eindhoven and Yerseke in Zeeland were also searched.
At the drug lab in a garage near a house on Dorpstraat in Luyksgestel, various chemicals were found at the time that could be used as raw materials for the production of drugs.
Cryptomessages
In addition, the police also had access to a large number of decrypted chat messages, which were sent via crypto communication platforms such as Encrochat. It showed that the 38-year-old suspect was probably involved in the rolled-up lab in Luyksgestel.
Further investigation showed that the man is probably involved in the large-scale trade in and production of hard drugs. He was also suspected of money laundering. He was acquitted of the latter on Tuesday.
Arrest in Spain
It soon became clear during the investigation that the man no longer lived in our country. In cooperation with the Spanish authorities, he was eventually arrested at his home in Spain.
The public prosecutor previously demanded 5.5 years in prison. The verdict of the judge is now somewhat lower. The time the suspect has already been detained will be deducted from the total duration.
