Contract ends in 2024
For a long time, Julian Brandt had the reputation of not making enough of his opportunities and not being consistent enough. Therefore, the connection between the 26-year-old offensive player and Borussia Dortmund was not considered unshakable. His former record market value of 50 million euros from the summer of 2019 has almost halved since then – and yet the former Leverkusen player Brandt has become an integral part of the BVB team. After convincing performances, those responsible at the club are now striving to extend the contract of the native of Bremen, which is valid until 2024. That reports “Sport1” as part of the podcast “Die Dortmund-Woche”.
Brandt has scored seven goals and five assists in 27 games in all competitions this season. The professional was in the starting XI in 23 matches. There have been initial signals from BVB that they want to continue working together. According to Patrick Berger, chief reporter at the reporting TV station, Brandt enjoys a high status at Borussia.

“Now he’s something like Edin Terzic’s extended arm on the pitch, the coach talks to him a lot. Brandt has matured into a leading player in recent months – so much so that the BVB bosses now want the contract to be extended,” explains Berger, who says that the enthusiastic club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke also got involved in the personnel have.

Those responsible would have given Brandt to understand: “We plan with you before you change your mind.” Head coach Terzic recently said appreciatively: “Jule has developed extremely. He is completely fit and currently our most consistent player.” Brandt’s performances were also honored in the Dortmund TM Forum, who collected the most votes from the participating community with 66.2 percent for the eleven on the 20th match day. “Of course I also hope that Brandt extends. He’s a great player and a fine guy, his interviews are a pleasure, his honesty is absolutely rare in today’s professional football and very pleasant,” says user “angus_BVB”. And “Borusse91” rates the “Sport1” report as “great news!”
Brandt switched from Bayer Leverkusen to Dortmund in 2019 for 25 million euros, since then the international has made 154 appearances, 25 goals and 30 assists. For the “Werkself” it was 42 goals and 51 assists in 215 appearances. Brandt played his last of 39 international matches on November 16, 2022 in a friendly against Oman, and he did not play at the subsequent World Cup in Qatar.
