The family of shot camerawoman Halyna Hutchins has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles against Alec Baldwin – the actor who killed Hutchins while filming the movie Rust last year because he didn’t know his pistol prop was live. The parents and sister, who live in Kyiv, are now suing Baldwin for damages in a civil lawsuit. It is not yet known how high the claims are.
The family lawyer said Hutchin’s death was a tragic loss for her clients. They “have to deal with loss on top of this tragedy while living in the midst of Putin’s war in Ukraine.”
The camerawoman was shot dead with a revolver on the set of the western film “Rust”, director Joel Souza was seriously injured. The weapon was apparently loaded with real ammunition, and the test mechanisms failed.
In addition, in late January, Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence. Widower Hutchins made claims in 2022 – he and Baldwin were able to settle out of court. The 64-year-old Hollywood star denies any blame for the camerawoman’s death.
