On Thursday (10:00 a.m.), the administrative court in Hanover will hear whether the constant monitoring of employees at the online retailer Amazon is legal. In a data protection control procedure, Amazon Logistik Winsen GmbH is suing the state commissioner for data protection in Lower Saxony, Barbara Thiel. It has issued an order against the company at the Winsen/Luhe site in the district of Harburg, according to which the continuous collection of data is not permitted.
The point is that a system is used in the logistics center in which various work steps are noted using a hand scanner. The lawsuit has a suspensive effect, so that it is currently being recorded, said a court spokeswoman. The 10th chamber responsible for data protection negotiates at the Amazon location. Winsen is one of 20 large logistics centers in Germany. Around 1900 employees work there. (dpa)
