Maassen successor
Borussia Dortmund has separated from its U23 coach Christian Preusser. The 39-year-old had taken over the third-division footballers from Dortmund after Enrico Maaßen left at short notice to Bundesliga rivals FC Augsburg last summer immediately before the start of the season. After 21 matchdays with only six wins, the BVB juniors are ranked 16th in the 3rd division.
“We didn’t take the decision lightly. In the past few weeks, however, we have come to believe that our goals for the season – both in terms of the development of the team and the individual development of the players – will be difficult to achieve in this constellation,” said Ingo Preuss, the sporting director of the U23s , in a club announcement on Monday.
Before his station in Dortmund, Preusser was active as the head coach of second division team Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he had to leave in February last year after almost exactly the same tenure as afterwards at Borussia.
