Disappointment for Jana Fischer: After just a few meters, her dream of a medal was already over. The 22-year-old from Titisee-Neustadt made a mistake in the waves after the start, caught her board on a step and lost her speed completely. Since her opponents made no mistakes in the round of 16, she was out of the competition.
Another chance on Saturday
“I was actually very confident. I don’t know why I got stuck at the top either.”said Fischer, who had only competed in one World Cup race this season due to injury: “Another lap would definitely have been a must.”
Four years ago, Fischer made it to the quarter-finals of her first Winter Olympics. But this time it didn’t go so well in qualifying. She completed the nearly 1.4-kilometer course in Zhangjiakou’s Snow Park in only the 20th fastest time. But there is still a chance of making amends: On Saturday she will be at the start again in the first ever Olympic mixed team competition.
