THE Grammy Awards have given – in the night between 5 and 6 February – the opportunity to Beyoncé to sign a new record. With his thirty-second Oscar win for music, she is the most awarded in the history of the awards. At the same time, in the most awaited night of global music, the Maneskins failed to secure their first statuette (they were candidates in the category Best New Artistin which Samara Joy later triumphed).
32 statuettes and a new record for Beyoncé
The 2023 Grammys has an undisputed winner. Indeed, Beyoncé triumphed for the Best Albums in the category Best Dance/Electronic Musicthanks to his latest project Renaissance. AND she took home three more awards: Best R&B Song For Cuff it, Best Dance/Electronic Recording For Break My Soul And Best Traditional R&B Performance For Plastic off the sofa). Out of a total of eighty-eight nominations, Beyoncé made it to thirty-two wins. With this win, Queen Bey has surpassed the record which, until a few hours ago, was held by Georg Solti. The Hungarian naturalized English conductor who died in 1997, in fact, held the record for thirty-one Grammys.
Beyoncé – now, therefore, the most awarded artist in the history of the Grammys – wanted to dedicate this important recognition to the LGBTQ+ community. He said, on stage: «I’d like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing a genre.
Thanksgiving to the queer community after the controversy over the concert in Dubai
This extremely inclusive thanksgiving comes later the controversies that overwhelmed her because of her choice to perform, a few weeks ago, for the inauguration of the Atlantis luxury hotel The Royal, in Dubai. In fact, many fans of hers had criticized her for agreeing to perform in the United Arab Emirates, a place where human rights violations are still present. Violations that affect especially the queer community.
For that performance, Beyoncé apparently received a fee of $24 million. About 330 thousand euros per minute.
The Maneskins return to Italy without prizes
Disappointment, however, for the Maneskin at the Grammys 2023. The Roman band was a candidate in the category Best New Artist. Many were talking about their probable victory, especially after their recent appearances in the most popular talks in the States… But the award went to jazz singer Samara Joy.
Damiano, Victoria, Ethan and Thomas – decidedly proud of the won candidacy, in any case a very important recognition of the work they are doing around the world – are back in Italy. Indeed will be guests at the 73rd edition of the Sanremo Festival. Thursday 9 February they will perform at the Italian Song Festival in the company of Tom Morello, legendary guitarist of Rage Against the Machine. They collaborated with him for their latest single Gossip. The song is contained in the latest album of the Italian band of records Rush!.
