According to a media report, the public prosecutor’s office in Potsdam is investigating two officers from the Brandenburg State Criminal Police Office (LKA) on suspicion of falsifying a witness statement.
It is about investigations into possible billing fraud at a clinic, reported the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) on Monday.
Why is?
According to RBB, one of the officers is involved in investigations into the Ernst von Bergmann Clinic. The second officer therefore confirmed the alleged questioning with her signature.
The investigation involved billing fraud. Doctors and pharmacists were suspected of having billed a health insurance company twice for expensive medication, such as Remicade for rheumatic patients. Since 2017, the health insurance company has been investigating at great expense. 130 police officers searched almost 30 apartments, laboratories and pharmacies in Berlin, Hamburg, Rostock and Hennef in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Extra IT specialists were hired to evaluate confiscated computers. From a total of 25 suspects, only three pharmacists and a former managing director are still suspects today. The investigations against 21 people, including all doctors, were dropped.
A former managing director of the clinic was heavily incriminated by the possibly forged testimony. His lawyer Stefan Klauser came across the alleged interrogation when he inspected the files. In an interview with rbb24 research, he explains: “From my point of view, this interrogation was fabricated in order to make my client the accused.” He came to this conclusion because the allegations against his client for two years have been based primarily on this “statement”. would.
The alleged witness denies the questioning to rbb. Her statement is also confirmed by her mother, who cares for the seriously ill woman around the clock. The public prosecutor’s office had discontinued an initial investigation into this.
