Table leaders Darmstadt 98 clearly won in the 2nd Bundesliga at SV Sandhausen – but were not always superior.
With the 4:0 (2:0) on Friday (February 3rd, 2023), Darmstadt underpinned its lead in the 2nd Bundesliga. Sandhausen, on the other hand, remains in acute danger of relegation. Mathias Honsak (6th minute/25th), Oscar Vilhelmsson (55th) and Emir Karic (89th) scored the goals.
Sandhausen with chances, Darmstadt ice cold
The league leaders were quickly on course: Mathias Honsak headed in after a corner (6th). But then Sandhausen was close to equalizing: Alexander Esswein narrowly missed a short time later (8′), a cross from Christian Kinsombi also landed on the crossbar (14′).
But Darmstadt increased: Tietz staged Honsak, who put the ball in the goal on the left (25′). At least Sandhausen stayed on: Zhirov missed the connection (32nd). “Honsak used his speed, as did Vilhelmsson”said Darmstadt coach Torsten Lieberknecht. “The boys work well in the dressing room and on the training ground. And they reward themselves.”
“Lilies” close the sack
After the break, the “lilies” closed the sack: Oscar Vilhelmsson appeared free in front of the goal and completed the 3-0 for the guests. Sandhausen’s captain Erik Zenga said: “Football is a result sport. And the result spoke a clear story. The more efficient team won hands down.”
Sandhausen didn’t give up, but also failed to score the consolation goal. At the best opportunity, Raphael Framberger failed at Darmstadt goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen. Darmstadt’s Karic made it 4-0 after an SVD counterattack (89′).
