The RB Leipzig fan who collapsed before the round of 16 in the cup died in the hospital. The association, which is in contact with the person’s family, announced this on Thursday.
“This news makes us very sad. Unfortunately, the person who had to be resuscitated in front of the stadium yesterday before the game died in hospital. We extend our condolences and deepest sympathy to the family and friends“, it said in the message from RB Leipzig.
Leipzig fans remain silent because of the incident
The club offered its support to the family. Before the 3-1 cup match against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Wednesday, the fan collapsed in front of the stadium and had to be revived. As a result, the fans of the defending champions stopped supporting them, and the goals were hardly celebrated.
The team dedicated the post-game success to the fan and wished him a speedy recovery. “It was a bit of a strange game. We noticed that too. This win was for him,” said goalkeeper Örjan Nyland.
