The seriously ill Thijs Slegers (46), known as spokesman for PSV, is not getting better. He made this known in a message on social media on Thursday afternoon. “The doctors can’t do anything for me anymore.”
Slegers was struck by acute leukemia in 2020. “The rejection disease that has been bothering me for months cannot be stopped,” says Slegers. “After a previously successful stem cell transplant, the after-effects will eventually be fatal. The doctors can no longer do anything for me.”
Slegers was forced to stop his work as a spokesperson due to his illness.
‘Accept fate’
It is not clear how long Slegers has to live. “We have no choice but to accept fate and deal with it. My family and I thank you all for the support we received in recent years. That has done us very well,” he says in the message.
In the statement writes Slegers with a wink: “Tips for good series are welcome. Have to pass the time.”
‘Register as a stem cell donor’
Slegers calls on his followers to register as a stem cell donor. “If you really want to make me happy, register via Matchis. I can’t be helped anymore, but others can!”
