Daley Blind has made his first official minutes for Bayern Munich. The 99-time Orange-international was allowed to come in after an hour of play in the cup match against FSV Mainz. Bayern easily won 0-4 and thus qualified for the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal.

Blind had his contract with Ajax terminated at the end of last year and made a surprising transfer to the record champion of Germany. There he only got playing time until today in a friendly against RB Salzburg.

After more than fifteen minutes, Bayern Munich took the lead in Mainz through a goal from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The assist came from the Portuguese João Cancelo, who yesterday came over from Manchester City on the last day before the transfer window closed and got straight to the point.

Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané gave Bayern a comfortable 0-3 lead before the break. In the 64th minute, Blind was allowed to come in, just like Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutch saw that Alphonso Davies made it 0-4. At Bayern, Matthijs de Ligt played the entire match.

The cup victory comes at the right time for Bayern. Since the season has resumed, coach Julian Nagelsman’s team has not reached more than three draws in the Bundesliga. The lead on the surprising number 2 Union Berlin is only one point.
