The highly anticipated prequel series about ‘The Lord of the Rings’ has been titled ‘The Rings of Power’. The drama, which will run for several seasons, will premiere on September 2. The series tells the history of the well-known stories from the books ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ by JRR Tolkien. The cast is partly made up of a group of local actors from New Zealand. The rest come from Australia, Sri Lanka, Great Britain and the United States. British comedians Lenny Henry and Peter Mullan, known for ‘Ozark’ and ‘Westworld’, play a role, among others.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is the most expensive television series ever made. The first season costs streaming platform Amazon 465 million dollars (406 million euros). In comparison, ‘Game of Thrones’ had a production budget of around $100 million per season. Amazon bought the rights to make five seasons of a “Lord of the Rings” television adaptation in 2017.
