Did you sit in front of the window with binoculars last weekend? In any case, almost 17,000 Brabant people do, with the aim of spotting as many birds as possible. In total, about 285,000 fluttering critters were peated in our province during this year’s National Garden Bird Count.
But which species flew through the gardens of our province the most? Not entirely surprising: the house sparrow, followed at an appropriate distance by the great tit. They also occupy the top 2 in the other 11 provinces.
The jackdaw advances
One position, however, stood out. The fourth place this year is taken by the jackdaw. In addition to Brabant, it only reached the top 5 in North and South Holland and Zeeland. Furthermore, the blue tit (place 3) and the blackbird (place 5) were often counted in our province.
Incidentally, the counting Brabanders did get their money’s worth. Or time, at least. Each participant had an average of about 17 flying friends.
