Fight against food waste. A comment from BZ editor Katja Colmenares.
The apple is dented, the lettuce is wilting, the bananas are mushy. Still, all good, healthy food, but still too often thrown away by supermarkets.
That should be forbidden. As soon as possible, say the head of the Berliner Tafel and Berlin’s social senator.
You’re right! But if companies are to be required by law to donate their leftovers to charitable organizations instead of throwing them away, then this must be done in a way that is cost-neutral for them. But who is supposed to control it in the end?
Here we are all challenged to lower our often exaggerated claims. In addition, mushy bananas taste better in the cake than any ready-made baking mix.
