The history and geography of Russia is in Europe, it will not go anywhere and will not disappear, it is necessary to conduct a dialogue with Russia – this is how the French Foreign Ministry commented results of the meeting Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron.

“We will continue to live with Russia, it will not go anywhere, it will not leave us, its history and geography are in Europe. However, Ukraine is now in danger,” Clement Bon, Secretary of State at the French Foreign Ministry, said on France 2 TV channel.

According to Bon, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky welcomed the initiative of Emmanuel Macron to meet with Putin.

“Because it’s good that we’re talking to Russia, with our mediation we can try to find a solution,” Bon concluded.

Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron met on February 7 in Moscow. The leaders of Russia and France talked for more than 5 hours. The main topics were the situation around Ukraine and the security guarantees offered by Russia to the US and NATO.

Vladimir Putin called the talks with Emmanuel Macron meaningful and useful, while not agreeing with position of the President of France about Russia’s violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

On February 8, Macron intends to meet with Vladimir Zelensky.
