With Genki Haraguchi (31), sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth confirmed on Friday evening the name of an offensive player who could still come to VfB Stuttgart in the remaining days of the winter transfer window. The 43-year-old was not asked about another personality, which is apparently much more specific: Gil Dias from Benfica Lisbon.
The 26-year-old winger faces a report from the Portuguese record according to a change to the Swabians. According to “Foot Mercato”, AJ Auxerre from France is also interested, but a move to Istanbul Basaksehir failed. The record-breaking Liga Portugal champions are keen to make room in the squad before the end of the transfer window and Dias hasn’t played a role this season. After moving from AS Monaco in the summer of 2021 for 1.5 million euros, he made 18 appearances (1 goal, 1 assist) in his first year, this season there are only two games in the cup competitions.
According to the report, a firm commitment from Stuttgart is planned, but the newspaper did not provide any information about the transfer fee. For Gil, the move to VfB would only be the second permanent transfer of his career, but he still made stops in half of Europe during his time in Monaco. Between 2015 and 2021 he was loaned out from the Principality to Portugal, Italy, England, Greece and Spain. Stuttgart would be his tenth club in the seventh country – just in terms of professional career.
