Aston Villa’s Egyptian winger Trezeguet has good news after a long lay-off with injury and the recent defeat in the Africa Cup of Nations final: The 27-year-old will be able to temporarily prove himself at a new club after his difficult comeback. After coach Steven Gerrard had already announced his departure, Trezeguet’s new club in Turkey has now announced that it will be up to Istanbul Basaksehir until the end of the season.
Trezeguet gave hope-giving words from the Villa coach on Tuesday. “He’s on loan and playing, I think that’s the right thing for him,” Gerrard said at a press conference shortly before the announcement. The coach pointed out: “He was out for seven months with an injury that threatened his career.” After knee surgery, Trezeguet has been out since April, only returned to the AVFC’s second team at the beginning of December and, after a brief stint with the pros, retired in January only his third competitive game, making his first appearance for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations and then another six times until the final with the “Pharaohs”. In the Süper Lig, Trezeguet is currently the most valuable newcomer in winter 2022.
