Because he was involved in seven road blockades in Berlin, a 40-year-old climate adhesive has been fined 2,700 euros.

The Tiergarten district court found the man from Dresden guilty of seven counts of coercion and four counts of resisting law enforcement officials by sticking him to the roadway.

► In addition, in criminal proceedings against a 23-year-old, two fines of 1,500 euros each were imposed for coercion.

The district court rejected the man’s objections to penal orders issued at the request of the public prosecutor’s office because the 23-year-old was “insufficiently excused” from the hearing on Friday.

The trial against the 40-year-old was about blockades by the Last Generation group in January and February 2022. The programmer had sat down on a busy street with other climate stickers. The most affected were the exits of the Berlin city motorway A100.

In one case, a doctor who had to have an operation in a hospital was stuck in traffic, it was said in the process.

Traffic jams were caused, which affected many people, the judgment said, among other things. The court followed the prosecutor’s request with a fine of 90 daily rates of 30 euros each.

The accused had pleaded for acquittal. Such actions are necessary to draw attention to the climate emergency, he said.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.

The capital’s judiciary has been dealing with a large number of proceedings against climate demonstrators after road blockades for months. If an objection is lodged against the penal orders that have already been issued, an oral hearing is held. Four such processes are planned for the coming week at the Tiergarten District Court.
