Bayern Munich have signed Daley Blind. The 32-year-old passed the medical check on Thursday and will fly with the record champions to the training camp in Qatar on Friday.
“I can’t wait to play here. We’re facing the most important part of the season, which is about the titles – and a club like FC Bayern can win any trophy,” said Blind, who has a contract until the end of the season signed. Blind had prematurely terminated his contract with Ajax Amsterdam shortly after Christmas. He plays with a defibrillator that was inserted in him in 2019 after a myocarditis.
“Has great international experience”
“We are very happy that Daley is joining our team,” added Munich’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. Blind is a “flexible defender, he can play on the left as well as inside. He has great international experience and leadership qualities. I’m sure he will help us.”
The 99-time national player, who played for Oranje in all five games at the World Cup in Qatar until the quarter-finals were eliminated, comes to FC Bayern as a backup for various defensive positions after Lucas Hernandez was out. He had played 333 competitive games for Ajax. The son of former defender Danny Blind, he won the Eredivisie seven times and the domestic cup twice.
