Beijing (AP) – After a positive corona test, US figure skater Vincent Zhou missed the men’s individual competition at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
The 21-year-old Californian was missing from the short program, the day before the infection of the 2019 World Cup third had become known. The hope for negative results in further PCR tests had not been fulfilled for him.
Zhou announced his departure in a five-minute video on Instagram. “It feels unreal that it’s happening to me of all people,” he said, reporting that he had isolated himself for a long time before the Olympics. “The loneliness was overwhelming at times.” However, he announced “a bigger comeback”: “This is not the end”. Zhou finished third in the freestyle team competition on Sunday and won Olympic silver with the US team.
