The new police station at Kottbusser Tor is important. The Kotti is a crime hotspot that has attracted dealers and thieves for years. A new, visible guard creates – at least felt – more security.
There will be many local residents, social workers and associations who will be happy to see the guard at a prominent location. But just as many will view them critically. Because suddenly the police have a “24/7 office” – in the middle of the alternative neighborhood. Modernly equipped, plus video cameras.
It is all the more surprising that the district office was not brought to the table at the first consultation between the police and the interior administration. It’s a major player.
The next planning meeting is scheduled for February 10th. Hopefully with everyone involved. Because communication creates acceptance. Otherwise there is a risk of rejection.
