Will three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen reach the World Cup final for the sixth time? Mighty Mike takes on the Belgian Dimitri Van den Bergh, who has never been in the semifinals before. Follow the neighbor twist in the live blog below!
Semifinals (Best of 11)
Gabriel Clemens – Michael Smith 2-6
Dimitri Van den Bergh – Michael van Gerwen 0-4
Michael Smith can prepare for his third World Cup final. The Englishman settled in the semi-final with Gabriel Clemens, the first German ever in the last four of the World Cup. The crucial moment came after a 3-2 score in Smith’s favour. Bully Boy Clemens managed to break through the bullseye to make it 4-2. That turned out to be decisive, as Smith then ran out to a 6-2 victory.
Smith was also in the World Cup final in 2019 and last year. The Englishman lost both finals, first to Van Gerwen, last year to Peter Wright. “It will be my third World Cup final in five years”, the Englishman realized. “I will do everything I can to win. I don’t care if I throw against van Gerwen or Van den Bergh. If I hit a lot, I will become world champion.”
Clemens could accept his elimination: ,,I played a good match again”, Clemens reacted, leaving for Germany with a check for 100,000 pounds (112,000 euros). ,,But I played against a machine. I felt like he only threw 180.”
