Bundesliga: Union Berlin in the top 4 for the first time in the annual table

Bundesliga from January to December

For the first time in its history, Union Berlin is among the top four teams in the Bundesliga table for the year. The “Eisernen”, who finished fifth in 2021/22, collected 57 points in 2022, just ahead of SC Freiburg (56) and just three points behind Borussia Dortmund in third place.

The distance to the two teams at the front is a little bigger. For the first time since 2019, RB Leipzig (64) is the second strongest force in the German upper house for the full year, while FC Bayern (68) is enthroned at the top for the twelfth time in a row. However, in 2022 the lead will be smaller than in some previous years, when the record champions had 91 or even 93 points.

In the middle of the table there is a dense field with surprise teams such as 1. FC Köln (44), who qualified for an international competition for the first time since 2017, and Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt (42), who after eleventh place wintered in fourth place at the end of last season.

At the bottom of the table are the two promoted and relegated teams of the year. The best of the quartet is Werder Bremen, who after a stable season so far with 21 points are only five points behind Hertha BSC, who only held their own through the relegation and brought up the rear of all teams with 32 games played. Greuther Fürth (13), Arminia Bielefeld (12) and FC Schalke 04 follow at a greater distance behind Bremen. The Royal Blues have only two wins and three draws in the league and are at the bottom.
