The weekly shopping basket for one family of four will be 3.5 euros cheaper once the reduction from 4% to 0% for basic foods and from 10% to 5% for pasta and olive oil come into effect, according to calculations made by El Periódico from a fictitious purchase on the website of Mercadonathe supermarket with the largest market share in Spain.

In total, El Periódico has chosen 25 productswhose amount and food group is online with a basket of healthy products designed by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), which includes the recommended weekly consumption based on the size of the family unit, as well as the “guide of essential products for a nutritionally healthy and sustainable quality shopping basket & rdquor; of Ministry of Consumption. Both include foods such as fish, meat or yogurtwhich are out of this VAT reduction.
