Status: 07.12.2022 8:50 p.m

The German women’s national team made an impressive start to the European Indoor Hockey Championships in Hamburg. On Wednesday, they scored a clear 11:2 (5:1) against debutant Turkey, followed in the evening by an 8:0 (3:0) victory over Austria.

After the first day, the selection of the German Hockey Association (DHB) is the leader of the standings ahead of the Netherlands and the Ukraine, both of which also have the best possible score of six points.

In front of a good 1,000 spectators in the sports hall in Hamburg, indoor hockey world champion Lisa Altenburg scored five goals against Turkey, Anne Schröder, Pia Maertens and captain Sonja Zimmermann each scored twice. In the duel with Austria, Altenburg scored again (2), Sara Strauss (4), Cecile Pieper and Viktoria Huse marked the other goals.

National coach: “We pushed hard on the goal account”

“It was a good start to the tournament because we need these games to warm up,” said national coach Valentin Altenburg, who was expelled from the coaching zone in the middle of the final quarter for complaining by the referee and watched the rest of the second game from the stands . Nevertheless, he was satisfied: “The goal difference can definitely play a role. That’s why I’m glad that we put a lot of effort into goal tally in both games.”
