InnovOcean Campus officially opened

This is a new building on the Oosteroever, which is now home to two marine research institutions: ILVO, which is the Institute for Agricultural, Fisheries and Food Research, and the Flemish Institute for the Sea, VLIZ for short.

The province’s coast department and researchers from Unesco and Europe will also be housed in the new InnovOcean Campus. The breeding of gray shrimps larger than 7 cm is a new pilot project of ILVO.

Due to overfishing, only 2 percent of all gray North Sea shrimps caught are longer than 7 cm. ILVO now wants to breed those large shrimps itself.

Nearly 100 ILVO people moved from Ankerstraat to the Innovocean Campus. The Innovocean Campus in Jacobsenstraat was created thanks to 20 million euros in Flemish subsidies.
