AbroadThe letter bombs sent a few days ago to, among others, the Ukrainian and American embassies in Spain, all appear to have been sent from the Spanish city of Valladolid. The letters were put in regular mailboxes without security cameras. The authorities would therefore not yet have identified any suspect(s), Spanish media report.
The series of letter bombs is apparently related to the war in Ukraine. A letter bomb was discovered and defused in the US embassy on Thursday. Shortly before, it was announced that a “flammable” letter was sent to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez at the end of November. In addition, such a letter, which catches fire when opened, was delivered to the Ministry of Defense. A letter bomb also arrived at an air base east of Madrid.
A letter bomb was delivered to a weapons manufacturer in Zaragoza the day before. An employee of the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid was also slightly injured when an envelope addressed to the ambassador exploded when opened.
In addition to the dangerous letters in Spain, packages with “bloody content with animal eyes” have also been sent to Ukrainian embassies and consulates elsewhere in Europe. The Ukrainian embassies in Hungary, Poland, Croatia and Italy, among others, received such a package, as did the consulates in Naples, Krakow and the Czech Brno.
