The EU will collaborate to judge Russia and freeze funds for the reconstruction of Ukraine

The European Union will work with the International Criminal Court (ICC) to establish a specialized court to try Russia’s “horrible crimes”, while ensuring with its partners that it pays for the “devastation” it has caused in Ukraine with the Frozen Russian assets and funds.

The announcement was made this Wednesday by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in a message on her official Twitter account, accompanied by a video. “Russia must pay for its horrible crimes,” von der Leyen said.

“We will work with the ICC and help establish a specialized court to try Russia’s crimes,” he added.

In addition, German politics has indicated that the EU and its partners will ensure “that Russia pays for the devastation it caused, with the frozen funds of the oligarchs and the assets of its central bank.”
