Dog left behind on a tree in the forest in Havelte. Animal ambulance is looking for owner

In the forest on the Wandelbosweg near Havelte, employees of the Southwest Drenthe animal ambulance found an abandoned shepherd. The animal was tied to a tree.

The male has been handed over to the Drents Dierentehuis Beilen. The police have been called and the owner is being sought. There are many tips coming in about the dog.

Quarantine for two weeks

According to Alwin Tol of the Drents Dierentehuis Beilen, the animal is doing well under the circumstances. “My colleagues have just walked the dog and they were able to take him straight from the kennel. The dog stays with us for 14 days. Only after he has been quarantined for two weeks and his character has been mapped will he become available for adoption.” The dog does not have a name yet.

According to Tol, it hardly happens anymore that a dog is left tied up. “Often reports are made of a nuisance from a stray dog and then it turns out to be the owner himself who calls. But leaving it tied up like that? That still happens very occasionally.”
