2nd league: Bremen and Schalke on course for promotion

2nd league

Düsseldorf (dpa) – cheering in Bremen, euphoria at Schalke – the two traditional clubs have continued their upward trend in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. Werder made it to second place with a 2-1 (0-0) win over Karlsruher SC.

Thanks to the hard-fought 2-1 (0-1) win over Jahn Regensburg, FC Schalke improved to third place and thus made their way back into promotion regions for the first time since the end of October.

FC St. Pauli, on the other hand, missed the return to the top of the table. Against SC Paderborn, the North Germans did not go beyond a 2: 2 (2: 1). In front of 6,000 spectators in the Millerntor Stadium, Maximilian Dittgen (5th minute) and Etienne Amenyido (44th) scored the goals for the second-placed team from Hamburg. Dennis Srbeny (37th) and Marco Stiepermann (84th) prevented Paderborn’s first away defeat of the season with their goals.

Bremen’s impressive winning streak, directed by Ole Werner, also continued against KSC. In the sixth game on the Werder bench, the football teacher celebrated his sixth win. In front of 10,000 spectators in the Weser Stadium, which was sold out under Corona conditions, Marvin Ducksch (51st minute) and Anthony Jung (76th) scored the goals for the North Germans.

FC Schalke can also continue to hope for the Bundesliga return. In the Veltins Arena, which was also filled with 10,000 spectators, Simon Terodde (64th) and Malick Thiaw (73rd) ensured the fifth game in a row without defeat on Saturday. On the other hand, the downward trend in guests continues. The interim lead by Andreas Albers (32nd) couldn’t change that.

In the bottom of the table, SV Sandhausen scored an important 2-0 (1-0) win over Erzgebirge Aue after goals from Cebio Soukou (45th penalty) and Christian Kinsombi (69th). In the evening (8.30 p.m.) FC St. Pauli and SC Paderborn meet.

1. FC Nürnberg suffered an unexpected setback. In the embarrassing 0: 5 (0: 3) against the tail light, the nine-time German soccer champion conceded the second highest second division defeat in his club history and lost contact with the promotion ranks. Unlike the Franconians, 1. FC Heidenheim kept their chances of promotion and beat Hannover 3-1 (2-1) in the second game on Friday.
