Liverpool’s offensive plans
Being the second most expensive winter transfer in the history of Liverpool FC (45 million euros) is already a house number for newcomer Luis Díaz (25). However, the Colombian winger in the top-class Reds offensive – Sadio Mané (29) and Mohamed Salah (29) are set on the wings – should initially have to queue at the back. But how long? Trainer Jürgen Klopp made it clear that when buying the former Porto attacker, he was primarily looking to “tomorrow” – also because he cannot be sure how long his world stars Mané and Salah will still be there.
Regardless of Mané and Salah, both of whom are only tied for a short time until the end of next season, a club like Liverpool cannot just rely on individuals anyway. You have to be “ready for all possible scenarios”. With the expensive Diáz transfer, “nothing happened other than bringing in a really good player. Now we have to work properly with Luis, and with everyone else too,” said Klopp.

In addition to Salah and Mané, offensive player Roberto Firmino (30) is only under contract for one more season. The newspaper “The Times” rates it as unlikely for Liverpool to keep all three. Diogo Jota (25), who was signed on a long-term basis two summers ago, and youngster Kaide Gordon (17) are considered to be successor solutions for the successful trio with which the LFC won the championship and Champions League.
The coach said: “We can’t hope to get through that with three or four players. We need options and we need help.” And whatever the stars decide, Liverpool cannot wait for it alone. “Players may plan their future, but a club has to be ready for pretty much all scenarios,” emphasized Klopp. “And we make sure of that all the time between games.”
