The top German galloper Tünnes clearly missed out on a top placement in the prestigious Japan Cup.

The three-year-old stallion trained by Peter Schiergen in Cologne took ninth place in Tokyo under jockey Bauyrzhan Murzabayev.

After 2400 m, Vela Azul with Ryan Moore in the saddle secured victory in the test, which was worth around 6.6 million euros.

Tünnes had recently won the Bavarian Grand Prix and went into the race with some hopes.

There was still 92,308 euros for ninth place. Lando was the only German galloper to date to win the Japan Cup in 1995.
