Alpine skiing | Giant slalom: Shiffrin clearly missed a home win

Ski superstar Mikaela Shiffrin clearly missed victory in her first home race of the World Cup winter.

In difficult wind conditions in the giant slalom in Killington/Vermont, the American finished only 13th, 1.40 seconds behind the winner Lara-Gut Behrami from Switzerland.

However, Shiffrin already has the next and probably much better chance of her 77th World Cup success in the slalom on Sunday: The 27-year-old has already triumphed five times in her special discipline in Killington.

The German starters Jessica Hilzinger (+3.51) in position 43 and Marlene Schmotz (+4.85) in position 51 clearly missed qualifying for the second round.

Schmotz accidentally triggered the time measurement in the starting house and thus lost almost all chances before the first goal.

For the ticket to the World Championships in Courchevel/Meribel in February, the German Ski Association requires a top eight result or two runs in the top 15.

The first planned giant slalom of the season in Sölden in October had been canceled due to the weather. Shiffrin won the first two races (slalom each) in Levi/Finland last weekend.
