Anyone who has a Netflix account knows the problem – the access data for the account is shared with other people or someone has forgotten to log out of the holiday apartment. Then how can unwanted devices be deregistered? Netflix now offers a practical function for this.
So far, Netflix users have only been able to deregister all registered devices in the account. But now logging out of individual end devices is much easier. TECHBOOK shows how it works and the advantages of cleaning out devices that are registered in your own Netflix account.
Sign out unwanted devices in Netflix account
The Device Manager page at Netflix gives an overview of the last connected devices. You can find it under the account settings. Anyone who has registered with their Netflix profile in the holiday home or with friends and forgets to log out can now only do so for one specific device. It is now also visible with which profile and which device the Netflix account was used. The exact time, where and from which IP address the account was active is also visible.
If users have passed on their Netflix access data to others in the past, they can now log out these co-users. In this case, however, you should also change the password to avoid new registrations.
Netflix wants to take action against multiple use
However, the increased control of devices could also encourage users to share their accounts more with other users. However, Netflix wants to take more action against the multiple use of accounts in 2023. How exactly Netflix wants to recognize multiple users of accounts in Germany is still unclear. The new function could be a first step in this direction because the location and IP address of access are recorded and visible. In a test phase in South America, the Netflix accounts were assigned to a primary home. Logging in at another location was only possible with an additional fee. However, the use of the Netflix account at the additional location is possible for two weeks at no extra charge. For this purpose, the corresponding account must not have been active at the location in one year.
Netflix also allows some accounts to be shared. However, everyone must live in the same household. This applies to family members as well as friends or people in a shared apartment who live in the same place. Until now, two people were allowed to watch films and series at the same time in the standard Netflix model. With Netflix Premium, there are even four devices that can be logged in at the same time. Theoretically, however, devices can be registered under a profile. The new Netflix function makes it easier to control and log out of the large number of devices.
