At the last World Cup of the year, triathlete Jannik Schaufler just missed out on a podium place over the sprint distance.
The 25-year-old from Heidelberg took fourth place in Viña del Mar, Chile. In third place, Schaufler was only eight seconds short of 51:04 minutes.
In a tight finish, the Spaniard David Castro Fajardo (50:52) won ahead of the Chilean Diego Moya (50:55) and the Moroccan Jawad Abdelmoula (50:56).
The race consisted of a 750m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run. Chris Ziehmer was 18th in his World Cup debut, Benedikt Bettin 39th. There were no German triathletes at the start for the women.
