Jasmi Joensuu skied handsomely to second place in the traditional sprint of the Olos cannonball competition on Friday. The Finn could have won the international event, but the woman’s hair messed up a little before the finish line.
– I tried hard to ski and without counting the final stretch I succeeded. Ten meters before the finish line there was a red line, I thought it was the finish line and I was already reaching for it, Joensuu commented in an interview with the online radio of the Cannonball Games.
Norwegian Anna Svendsen rushed to the finish line 0.02 seconds ahead of the Finn.
– It was nice, but really hard to compete. But it’s the same for everyone, the Norwegian said, pointing to the thick snowdrift.
Germany’s Pia Fink was third in the women’s sprint. The difference to the top was 1.08 seconds.
The second best Finn in the competition was eliminated in the semi-finals Anni Kainulainen.

Won the men’s sprint Even Northug. Legendary by Petter Northug the little brother dominated the final from bang to finish. He was also number one in the time trial, quarter-finals and semi-finals.
– It went really well. The weather was bad, but it didn’t soften me. I have been training in Muonio all week and the training has gone well. The main goal of the season is the World Championships in Planica, but I also ski in the Ski Classics competitions, Northug said.
Northug’s compatriot managed to finish second Sindre Skar (+0.21). Finland Ville Ahonen was third (+2.40).
He reached the final as the second Finn Lauri Vuorinen. He finished sixth in the top six.
A star in the air

In the last season, the Norwegian star who was the hottest by Emil Iversen the problems continued. He fell in the semi-final on Friday, so there was no point in the final.
– I do not know what happened. I flew like a bird to the project. The snow was soft, so it was a nice feeling. Otherwise, I’m quite satisfied, because the competition gave me answers to my questions, commented Iversen in an interview with Artillery Games online radio.
Iversen is a four-time world champion from 2019–21.

Friday’s race saw a few surprising withdrawals.
Successful in traditional sprints in recent seasons Johanna Matintalo didn’t start the morning time trial. Finland’s young sprint promise Amanda Saari went from qualifying in 26th place to the continuation, but did not start in the heat phase.
Sprint world champion and two-time Olympic silver medalist Federico Pellegrino was seventh in qualifying. The Italian said after his morning bet that he has pains in his leg, so he left the event.
