Pugliese and Goyeneche: the family history behind the photo

In the San Martin Theaterthe exhibition dedicated to the author of the emblematic photograph of the master Pugliese and the Polish Goyeneche that, like a stamp, protects all the stages of Buenos Aires. A tribute that is latent to this day.

The photographer Antonio Massa portrayed the intimacy of sandromanaged to capture the smile of a young man Charlie Garcia and took the first studio photo of soda Stereoamong many other images of the Argentine music scene, over the decades, and of different genres such as tango, folklore, pop and rock.

From November 9 to Sunday March 26, 2023, from Tuesday to Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the exhibition can be seen in the theater gallery. The sample will be presented within the framework of the celebration of the 60 years of the renowned Studio.

The event is made up of three generations of photographers and has one of the most important archives in the country. A photographic story about the passion for the still image, transmitted from generation to generation, within the family of masters of light. In the route not only the history of the Massa familybut that of several generations that through the lens of the family camera are part of our collective cultural history.

the pioneer Antonio Massa he dedicated his life to photography and finding unique looks. His experience consolidated him as a teacher, who still builds a footprint through which the new generations travel. At 87, he continues to work alongside his son Joseph Louis Massa and his granddaughter Catalina Serrano Massawho inherited the eye and love for photography.

In 1962, the Studio Massa, with which a great diversity of works were made and which provided him with countless negatives with musicians, singers, film, theater and television actors. Through his lens they passed Julio Sosa, Aníbal Troilo, Sandro, Mercedes Sosa, La Mona Giménez, Soledad, Juan Carlos Baglietto, Charly Garcíathe groups Sumo and Soda Stereoand international artists such as Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett, The Rolling Stones or Paul McCartney.

“This sample, curated by his granddaughter, is a cutout of the Studio Massa and its relationship with music, while proposing a historical tour of the Argentine music scene over the decades and of genres such as tango, folklore, popular music, pop, rock and urban music contemporary.
