With Christian Eriksen at the helm and the Bundesliga trio of Jesper Lindstrom (Eintracht Frankfurt), Jonas Wind (VfL Wolfsburg) and Oliver Christensen (Hertha BSC), Denmark is entering its sixth World Cup.
National coach Kasper Hjulmand announced 21 of his 26 Qatari drivers at the Bella Arena in Copenhagen on Monday, the nomination was broadcast live on Danish television.
The team is led by the likes of AC Milan captain Simon Kjär, OGC Nice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and Eriksen. The 30-year-old, who is now under contract with Manchester United, collapsed on June 12, 2021 at the European Championships with heart problems on the field. In the meantime, Eriksen has been fitted with a defibrillator.
Hjulmand does not want to award the five remaining World Cup tickets until the end of the week, as the Bundesliga professionals, among other things, are still in action. Goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow (Union Berlin), Yussuf Poulsen (RB Leipzig) and Jacob Bruun Larsen (1899 Hoffenheim) can still hope.
Denmark qualified for the World Cup after nine wins from ten games with 27 points – together with Germany it was the best value of all ten European qualifying groups.
In the preliminary round in Doha on November 22, Denmark will first meet Tunisia before a showdown with world champions France. Final opponent in the preliminary round group D on November 30th is Australia.
