The “shoulder of the nation” is ready for action again: After seven games without a game, Manuel Neuer is back in goal for FC Bayern. The national goalkeeper recently had to take a break because of a bruised shoulder joint.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann gave the press conference ahead of the Bundesliga game against Hertha BSC on Saturday (live from 3.30 p.m. in the radio live report) All clear: “Manu will come along and play again if things go well in final training,” said Nagelsmann. They “waited until he was pain-free again. There is always a certain risk. But the doctors gave the green light.”
National coach Hansi Flick should also be happy about this. Because an injury-related cancellation by Manuel Neuer for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar was also in the room.
On Friday evening, Neuer reported via video message and gave the green light for his assignment: “I’m fine. I did the first team training session. Everything was fine,” said the Bayern captain.
Salihamidzic takes on the “Causa Nübel”.
Sven Ulreich, Munich’s second goalkeeper, must now take his place on the substitutes’ bench again. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, on loan from FC Bayern to AS Monaco, can count on playing time in Ligue 1.
The 26-year-old was visited by sports director Hasan Salihamidzic on Thursday. Not a surprising trip for Nagelsmann: “It’s his job to take care of the players. It’s not all predictable.”
Nagelsmann: “It’s worth talking more about Manu”
In the foreseeable future, Nagelsmann does not see that Nübel Neuer will contest the place: “Manu Neuer is an outstanding goalkeeper who would like to play for a long time and that’s why it’s worthwhile for me to talk more about Manu,” said Nagelsmann.
Nübel does not want to go back
For Nübel, the situation is clear. In September, in an interview with “Kicker”, he found clear words about a possible return to the Bavarian capital: “There is no way I can come back if Manu is still there. I certainly won’t do that, I can do that rule out that I’ll sit on the bench again at Bayern.”
Neuer’s contract with Munich runs until the summer of 2024. Salihamidzic seems to be negotiating whether Nübel will then return to the record champions. Until then, the national keeper is the undisputed number one.
Sané ready for action, Müller further injured
In addition to Neuer, Nagelsmann can fall back on Leroy Sané and Lucas Hernandez against the Berliners. Both have recovered from their injuries and are operational again. It is different with Thomas Müller. The national player is absent from the team through injury, as is Matthijs de Ligt (knee problems).
