A bizarre accident in the Netherlands today: in Kerkrade around noon a car crashed through the wall of a parking garage, after which the car ended up 3 meters lower in a schoolyard. Fortunately, there were no children playing in the square at the time. The driver was injured and taken to hospital, according to police.
The accident happened around 11.40 am on Zonstraat in Kerkrade. The red car suddenly shot out of nowhere through the wall of a parking garage on the first floor. The car then fell three meters down and ended up upside down in the schoolyard of primary school De Steltloper.
The driver was removed from the car by firefighters and taken to hospital by ambulance. The Dutch police cannot yet provide information on age, place of residence or other details. No one was injured except the driver. It is not yet clear how the accident could have happened.
Apartments vacated
“All students were inside the school at the time of the accident,” police said. “Several students have seen the accident happen. The school has arranged victim care for them.” Parents who picked up their shocked schoolchildren said their children no longer have to go back to school on Friday afternoon. Childcare has been arranged for children who cannot yet be picked up.
According to the police, the building became unstable due to the damage to the wall. For that reason, four apartments had to be evacuated. The residents are taken care of elsewhere. Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
