Former First Chamber member Sam Pormes (66) will probably be the party leader for GroenLinks Drenthe in the upcoming Provincial Council elections. The regional party board nominated him.
Pormes is currently a Member of Parliament for GroenLinks. The current party leader Ewoud Bos is not eligible for the list leader, he says he is taking a step back because of his busy job. On Saturday 19 November, Pormes’ leadership will be definitively determined during a party meeting.
Pormes was the first Dutch senator of Moluccan descent. He was a member of the Senate from 2001 to 2006. In that last year, Pormes resigned from his position after a conflict with GroenLinks. He is said to have made conflicting statements about his alleged activist past.
He later returned to GroenLinks in the Drents Parliament. There he mainly focuses on finance, culture, governance and economic affairs. Pormes was also active in the Assen city council.
Numbers 2 to 5 on the list are completed by Mira Hamdaoui (Assen), Ewoud Bos (Meppel), Benide Bolumba (Assen) and Mireille Sampimon (Coevorden). The GroenLinks faction in the Drents Parliament now consists of four seats.
