Leo Delcroix became Minister of Defense in 1992 in the Dehaene I government and is best known for suspending military service. After he ended his political career in 1999, he became president of Hasselt University, among other things.
Delcroix has been discredited several times. He had to resign as minister at the time after it was leaked that he had let postmen work ‘in black’ on his villa in the south of France.
A public funeral will take place this Wednesday in Genk.
