The “perfect” group stage with full points is the goal for Bayern Munich vs Inter Milan (live from 9 p.m. on the BR24 Radio Reportage). “18 points in the group would be very, very strong,” Julian Nagelsmann clarified before the game.
For Bayern, who qualified as group winners for the round of 16, it’s about maintaining a balance between rotation and success. Nagelsmann is nevertheless confident that the changes will not have a negative impact on Bayern’s game: “We have a balanced squad. The last few weeks have shown that we have not had any drop in performance when we make changes.”
Nagelsmann rotates – de Ligt is injured
Before the game against Inter Milan, Bayern have to complain about a new injury. Matthijs de Ligt is out. After the game against Mainz, the new head of defense in Munich suffered from knee problems. In addition, there are the long-term injured Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sané. Even if both have been back in training since this week, the game against the northern Italians comes too early. Thomas Müller will also be absent. The guest appearance at Hertha BSC should also take place without him.
There is better news for Manuel Neuer. The shoulder problems seem to have been overcome: “He coped well with the training today and showed no reaction. But we have to wait and see,” said Nagelsmann. A comeback at the weekend is within the realm of possibility. Nagelsmann also gives the all-clear with regard to the World Cup in Qatar and Neuer’s role in the national team: “I think the nation can go to bed in peace tonight.”
Gravenberch gets his chance
In view of the numerous failures, Ryan Gravenberch moves into the starting XI. The Dutchman, who switched from Ajax Amsterdam to Säbener Straße in the summer, had recently complained about the lack of working hours.
In Barcelona, the midfielder came on as a substitute in the second half. “Ryan came in outstandingly against Barcelona. He shows in the games and in training that he is very strong with the ball. In the game he also showed that he can bring us a lot defensively,” praises team-mate Joshua Kimmich the game against Inter Milan.
