Quote 500: the richest Drenthe are even richer this year

In the list of the 500 richest Dutch people there are again two Drenthe this year. Magazine Quote announced the list today.

Henk Ziengs from Assen is this year in place 389 in the list. He rose four places compared to last year. Ziengs leads the list of richest Drenthe. His place in the rankings is not the only thing that has risen. Ziengs’ assets also increased by 7.1 percent from 140 million to 150 million euros.

Ziengs took over the shoe store of the same name from his father in 1995. In 2017, he took over shoe company Scapino after it went bankrupt. Ziengs also owned Scapino in the 1980s and 1990s.

As he reached the age of 65 this year, he decided to sell his shoe empire. He also owns real estate, so after retiring as general manager at the shoe stores, he doesn’t have to worry about ending up on the street.

Henk’s brother, Bert Ziengs (70), can also be found on the list this year. He is in place 441, sixteen places lower than last year. What has increased is his net worth. That went from 130 million to 135 million.

Bert Ziengs – also from Assen – sold his shares in Scapino to his brother Henk in the 1990s. This was during the period when the Ziengs brothers owned low-cost fighter Scapino for the first time. With the money left over from this, Ziengs went into the real estate world. In recent years, that has always earned him a place in the list of richest Dutch people.

In addition to a list of the 500 richest Dutch people, Quote also presents a list of the richest families in the Netherlands every year. The Brenninkmeijer family heads that list again. They do this with a capital of 24 billion euros. Last year it was still 23 billion euros.

The only family in the list with a Drenthe link is the Wagenborg family. One of the cousins who owns it lives in Zuidlaren. The family is known for the shipping company of the same name, which is responsible for the ferry services to Ameland and Schiermonnikoog.

The family has fallen one place in the list of the 50 richest families in the Netherlands, from place 37 to place 38. The wealth of the family did increase, from 450 million to 465 million euros.

The list of 500 richest Dutch people was again led this year by multi-billionaire Charlene De Carvalho-Heineken (68). It is striking that its assets decreased from 13.5 billion to 12.8 billion euros.

Max Verstappen (25) will make his debut in the list this year. He is the youngest person in the Quote 500 ever. With a capital of 120 million euros, he is the list pusher of 2022.
